How the migration works

Switch to JTL

Reach your goal with automation & service partners

Switching to JTL does not have to be time-consuming and expensive. With the targeted use of tools and the support of the right service partner, the project will work. Here is a guide including frequently asked questions (FAQ) from those retailers who have already made the switch.

General migration path to JTL

You can switch to JTL from almost any system. Regardless of whether you are coming from another store system such as Shopware or PrestaShop, have been using a different merchandise management system or have simply been trading without software support. There are a few steps that you can always use as a guide. This will make the switch to JTL a complete success.

Step 1

Get to know JTL

JTL-Connector: Yes or no?

With the JTL Connector, you can connect external store systems to JTL Wawi. For example, you can use Shopware 6, Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop together with JTL. Some JTL connectors can be used free of charge, others are billed on a transaction basis via the order packages. You can find more information on this on our Prices & Editions page. As not all functions of the store systems are always supported, we generally recommend that you switch to JTL-Shop. You can also use the JTL connectors to migrate data from your old system.

What needs to be done?

With JTL you are switching to a completely new system. You should therefore familiarize yourself with our product family at the beginning. At the center is JTL-Wawi, which is included in all JTL editions. Our JTL-eazyAuction interface for connecting numerous marketplaces is also on board. You can create an online store with JTL-Shop and manage your warehouse with JTL-WMS. Please note the exact details and contents of our packages on our Prices & Editions page

Step 2

Advice and offer

Do everything on your own?

The question of whether you carry out the changeover yourself or have a service partner help you depends on two factors: The knowledge in your company and the system you are switching from. For systems such as plentymarkets and Afterbuy, JTL and its partners have greatly optimized the changeover. In this case, you will hardly save any money if you do it yourself. For other systems, we have some very good migration guides that you can try out yourself.

What needs to be done?

We recommend anyone who wants to switch to JTL to contact our sales department. Why? Our sales team has many years of experience in migrating customers. They know exactly when it makes sense to involve a service partner and which tasks you can do yourself. Advice is free and non-binding.

  • Have JTL estimate the project scope
  • Fill in the migration form
  • Going through open questions together with JTL
  • Implementation by JTL or service partner
  • Check & accept offer
Step 3

Preparations and setup

What hardware do I need?

The hardware requirements of our solutions always depend on various factors. The most important factors are how many clients should access a database, how many articles are maintained and how many orders are processed per day. We have created a list with the limits of JTL-Wawi. Consider the system requirements in this context.

What needs to be done?

As soon as you have decided which products or which editions of JTL you would like to use, you can set up a test system. Please contact our sales department using this form and they will activate the appropriate access for you. Then check all workflows in JTL-Wawi, JTL-Shop and JTL-WMS. As soon as you are satisfied, you can proceed to the next step. Your JTL service partner will also be happy to help you set up your test system.

  • View products and select JTL edition
  • Contact sales
  • Set up hardware (have it set up)
  • Install JTL-Wawi
  • Basic setup of JTL-Wawi
Step 4

Data transfer

How do I migrate data?

Most solutions offer the option of exporting data, e.g. orders, articles or customers, in batches. The best format for a migration to JTL is the CSV format. You can easily transfer files in CSV format to the JTL Wawi database using the JTL Ant import tool. Our certified JTL service partners will be happy to help you with more complicated migrations.

What needs to be done?

Now it gets serious. Export all relevant data from your old system and import it into JTL-Wawi or JTL-Shop. If you were able to use a JTL connector, the transfer will happen automatically. Otherwise, the import into JTL Wawi takes place via the import and export tool JTL Ant.

  • Export relevant data (or have it exported)
  • Use the waiting time & prepare for the go-live
  • Import test data (or have it imported)
  • Check test data at random
  • Import current inventory data
Step 5

Live walk and rework

Where can I find help?

Basically, there are many different ways to get help:

  • JTL-Guide: Here you will find a detailed description of how the JTL products are operated.
    To the JTL Guide
  • JTL forum: In the official JTL support forum you will find many like-minded JTL users. JTL employees also regularly answer questions here.
    To the JTL forum
  • JTL Support: Support provides assistance in the event of software malfunctions. You can create support tickets in the JTL Customer Center.
    To the JTL customer center
  • JTL service partners: JTL service partners can support you in the daily operation of the software. Employee training can also be carried out by JTL service partners.
To the JTL service partner search
What needs to be done?

Check all imported data. If there are any errors, you can import a backup of the JTL-Wawi database and perform the import again. If all is well, you can go live with JTL. It is best to switch over all systems at a specific time. If necessary, manually update the latest changes, e.g. new orders or customers.

  • Check data
  • Import backup in case of errors
  • Prepare live walk
  • Switching systems
  • Carry out rework

Switch from plentymarkets to JTL

We often receive inquiries from customers who previously used plentymarkets solutions. In the following, we would like to outline 5 steps for a smooth transition to JTL. But don’t worry: you don’t have to follow every step. These are rather tips on how experience has shown that the changeover works best.

Step 1

Get to know JTL

Differences to plentymarkets

JTL can map the vast majority of plentymarkets functions. However, before you decide to switch to JTL, first carefully check all the functions that are particularly important to you.

Make a list and go through it step by step using our videos and function pages. Make a note of all open points so that you can clarify them later with our sales department, for example.

What needs to be done?

Get to know JTL! Browse through our website and watch our introductory videos. Compare functions between plentymarkets and JTL. Ask questions in the JTL forum or visit us at JTL Connect or a regulars’ table.

There are many ways to get to know JTL.

Step 2

Advice and offer

Can't I do that on my own?

Of course, you can also introduce JTL in your company without support. In the JTL Guide you will find competent instructions for all important steps. However, we recommend that you take advantage of our free consultation.

Here we show you exactly which steps you can carry out yourself and where it makes sense to get help from JTL or a service partner. You will see that some services are so inexpensive that it is not worth doing them yourself.

What needs to be done?

Let JTL advise you on the changeover. The best way is to fill out our migration form or contact our sales department directly. JTL has the option of efficiently migrating data from plentymarkets to your JTL Wawi.

Based on your project requirements, we will also decide whether you will be supported by JTL or a service partner. You will then receive a customized quote for the migration.

Step 3

Preparations and setup

Which products do I need?

As a rule, advice from our sales department or a JTL service partner is sufficient to know which software you need. Almost all JTL modules and solutions also have test phases.

During the test phases, you can test the functionality without restriction and see for yourself whether you really need a module. During the test phase, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about functions and setup.

What needs to be done?

If you have decided to make the switch, the next step is to make all the necessary preparations: Is your hardware up to date? Which licenses do you need to purchase? Do you need your own server or will you have all databases hosted externally?

Our service partners can also help you with these questions.

Step 4

Data transfer and going live

What to do during migration?

While your data is being transferred and your system is being configured, you can use the following tasks to make good use of the waiting time:

  • Read documentation JTL-Guide
  • Watch tutorial videos
  • Train your employees
  • Get to know JTL workflows and other automation functions
  • Get to know the JTL community via Facebook, forums or regulars’ tables
What needs to be done?

This step is the easiest – you can simply let others do the work for you! Normally, a test is carried out first during the migration. If all data is transferred correctly, JTL or your service partner can carry out the complete data transfer.

Depending on the type of transfer and the size of the database, the automatic transfer takes between 4 hours and one working week.

  • Transfer required accesses to JTL
  • Train employees & prepare for go-live
  • Have test data imported
  • Check test data at random
  • Import current inventory data
Step 5

Rework

Who do I ask if I have problems?

In the event of problems, either your service partner or – in the event of system errors – our support team will help you.

  • Service partners help with:
Questions about the operation & setup of JTL.
  • JTL support helps with:
    Malfunctions of our software.

A little tip: The better tickets you create, the faster our customer service staff can help you!

What needs to be done?

Once the move has been completed and the software and hardware have been set up, there is nothing to stop you going live. Choose a day on which you have enough time and plan time for adjustments on the following day. Let’s go – from today you can work productively with software from JTL.

Of course, you will want to make improvements from time to time. But don’t worry – our service partners and JTL Support are on hand to help with any problems.

  • Check current data
  • Check offers in the store & on marketplaces
  • Carry out test purchases
  • Delivering first orders
  • Make improvements if necessary
