Engineering Manager – Team Lead (f/m/d)

Your responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager – Team Lead at JTL, you ensure that requirements reliably turn into working software. You create clarity around goals, risks and priorities and support your team in delivering sustainably and with ownership. You work closely with Product Management, Tech Leads and Architecture – you are not responsible for product strategy or architecture decisions, but for operational delivery, team leadership and transparency in day-to-day operations.

At JTL, AI-assisted software development is part of our everyday work. Our teams work with GitHub Copilot, Claude and ChatGPT, among others. We don’t expect „AI gurus”, but openness towards modern development tools and the ability to sensibly assess their use.

In concrete terms, this means:

• You use AI assistants and agents to speed up your daily work and know when you should critically question their output.
• You are familiar with agentic workflows: you give AI tools multi-step tasks, review the results critically and continue iteratively.
• You actively follow new developments in the field of AI-assisted software development and share your knowledge with the team.

Your responsibilities:

• You lead several development teams both professionally and with disciplinary responsibility and support their professional and personal development.
• You are responsible for the reliable delivery of your teams and ensure realistic planning, transparency and early communication of risks.
• You organize and steer the operational development process – refinements, sprint and iteration planning as well as ongoing prioritization.
• Together with Product Management, you ensure that requirements are clear, feasible and sufficiently prepared.
• You coordinate technical assessments, estimations and dependencies together with Tech Leads and the team.
• You make operational decisions in day-to-day operations – for bugs, short-term requirements or necessary scope adjustments.
• You identify bottlenecks, structural problems and overload early and make them transparent.
• You ensure comprehensible reporting on progress, risks and deviations from the plan.

What you bring

• You have experience leading or coordinating development teams – as a Team Lead, Engineering Manager or in a comparable role.
• You bring several years of experience in software development with a solid technical understanding.
• You can understand technical contexts and communicate with developers, Tech Leads and stakeholders as equals.
• You can sensibly manage priorities under real-world constraints.
• You communicate in a structured way and deal pragmatically with change and uncertainty.
• Ideally, you have experience working with complex or legacy software systems and iterative software development.
• You are open to AI-assisted development tools and modern development processes.
• You have good German and English language skills.
