Engineering Manager – Team Lead – Selling (f/m/d)

Your Responsibilities

As Engineering Manager in the Selling team, you ensure that requirements reliably turn into functional, high-quality software. You create clarity about goals, risks and priorities and support your team in delivering sustainably and with a sense of ownership.
In doing so, you work closely with your team, Product Management and architects. You are not solely responsible for product strategy or architecture decisions – but you are able to question them and help shape them soundly on the basis of technical understanding. Your focus is on operational delivery, team leadership and quality assurance in ongoing operations.
At JTL, AI-assisted software development is part of our everyday work. Our teams work with tools such as GitHub Copilot, NotebookLM and Claude. We don’t expect “AI gurus”, but openness towards modern development tools and the ability to assess their use sensibly.

In concrete terms, this means:

• You use AI assistants and agents to speed up your daily work and know when to critically question their output.
• You are familiar with agentic workflows: you give AI tools multi-step tasks, review the results critically and continue to work iteratively.
• You actively follow new developments in the field of AI-assisted software development and share your knowledge with the team.

Your Responsibilities

• You lead a development team both professionally and in a line-management capacity and support its professional and personal development.
• You are responsible for the reliable delivery of your team and ensure realistic planning, transparency and early communication of risks.
• You organise and manage the operational development process – e.g. refinements, sprint/iteration planning and ongoing prioritisation.
• Together with Product Management, you ensure that requirements are understandable, feasible and sufficiently prepared.
• You coordinate technical assessments, estimations and dependencies together with the team.
• You ensure transparent reporting on progress, risks and deviations from the plan.

What You Bring

• You have experience leading or coordinating development teams (e.g. as Team Lead, Engineering Manager or similar).
• You have several years of experience in software development in a web environment – you know the challenges of modern software development from your own practice.
• You have the ability not only to understand technical relationships but also to actively challenge them – you can question architecture and development decisions soundly and discuss them on equal terms with developers, tech leads and stakeholders.
• You have knowledge of web standards and best practices, e.g. PSR-12 (PHP Coding Standards) and OWASP Top 10 (web security risks).
• You are familiar with common development tooling such as unit testing, PHPStan (static code analysis) or comparable quality assurance tools – you can assess and demand their use within the team.
• You have structured communication skills and a pragmatic approach to change and uncertainty.
• You have very good German and English language skills.
• Experience working with complex or legacy software systems is an advantage.
